Michael Byrne is well-known for his work on the history of County Offaly and in particular Tullamore, its principal town. He has also published studies of the provincial press nd the distilling industry in the midlands.
Tullamore Rugby Club has a stong record of achieve ment behind it. From humble beginnings fifty years ago with one team and a shed for a changing room it now has five senior and five juvenile teams. At Spollanstown it has three superb pitches and an extensive pavilion in excellent condition. Presented here is a short record of that achievement and a further contribution to the history of rugby in Ireland.
