This collection of poetry from the Offaly countryside spans a period from the early 19th century to the present day. the anthology consists of poems written by Offlay poets or by poets living and working in Offlay. The selection has been divided into various categories so that there is a wide diversity of themes. The sadness of emigration, joyous occasion, the triumphs and the sorrows of sport, the activities of Board na mona, Leamonaghan parish and many social topics are covered. The background to each of the one hundred poems is dealt with, together with a short biography of each author. The editor’s introduction details the history of poetry from the Celtic Bardic Schools, though the Courts of Poetry, folk poetry, the origin of the poetry from known as the limerick, and concludes with the present day rap.
