Portarlington 1800-1850 – John Stocks Powell
The combined registers of Portarlington, Lea and Ballykean 1800-1850; also the English church, and the Lea & Coolbanagher Relief Subscriptions of 1847: Edited by John Stocks Powell.
The aim of this work is to make available the biography of Portarlington and its surrounding area in the first half of the nineteenth century, by combining various church registers for the period 1800-1850 inclusive. Partly this is to extend the historical opening made by the publication of the French church registers 1694-1816 by the Huguenot Society of London. By this combination of registers a more informed understanding of the decline of the Huguenot community may be feasible, and also the size of the Irish and English communities.
